It’s an unfortunate reality that at some point in our lives many of us will experience a health setback. It might be as simple as a broken limb or perhaps a relatively minor surgery; or something more significant, like a cancer diagnosis or a traumatic brain injury. If it’s the latter, there’s a reasonable chance that you will also need some assistance as you recuperate. Did you know that Milestone Health provides care for families with loved ones experiencing a health crisis at any age? While seniors often need our support, the reality is we’re equipped, able and ready to assist anyone who needs a little extra help!

Here’s How We Can Help You

Cancer Care

  • If you’ve just received a cancer diagnosis no doubt you are in shock. You may not yet know all the details or perhaps you do, and/or you’ve just had surgery and are being sent hope to recuperate.
  • Depending on the diagnosis, treatment options and type of operation you’ve had, you may be facing the reality of drainage tubes, dressings that require changing, IV’s or perhaps even dealing with a nasal-gastric or G-tube feeding tube.
  • You’ll require nursing support and Milestone Health is equipped to be able to provide the care you need whether it’s for a few days, a few weeks or even a few months.

Brain Injuries

  • Each year, as many as 500 people in every 100,000, suffer from some form of traumatic brain injury, or TMI. These can leave people with devastating and long-term damage including memory loss, behavioural changes and occasionally, even issues of uncooperative and/or problematic behaviour.
  • It can be hard to handle not only the daily challenges and physical impacts of assisting a loved one with a TMI but also coping with the emotional impact of changes in behaviours and relationships. An experienced and qualified caregiver might be what you need to help transition through the first few months of recovery.
  • Our team can help work with your loved one during their recovery and they can also help to act as an intermediary between the various health care services you may have contact with and you and your loved one.
  • You may even need the occasional respite care so that you can take some much needed time to yourself because assuming the role of a primary caregiver is extremely challenging.

Motor Vehicle Accidents or Stroke Recovery

  • Both strokes and MVA’s happen suddenly and without warning. The impact on the person experiencing the accident or stroke AND on loved ones can be catastrophic. From dealing with loss of mobility (permanent or temporary) to assisting with personal care or even toileting – these are challenges many a loved one never anticipated having to cope with.
  • Our nursing staff and personal support workers are skilled at dealing not only with the care of your loved one but also fully capable of acting as a liaison between family and doctors, designing a care plan that is specific to you and your loved ones needs and expectations, and coordinating physiotherapy and other services with members of the Milestone professional team.
  • If your MVA results in an insurance claim we may be able to make your life easier by billing directly to insurance companies or in the case of a stroke, implementing a care plan that moves from intensive supports in the beginning to fewer supports as your loved one recuperates and shows improvement.
  • Whether it’s a stroke, an MVA, cancer or TMI – you will receive personalized support for exactly what you need, when you need it.
