People are our passion

The reason we choose to offer health care services as our business is that we care about people. We want to improve your quality of life as much as possible. Our team at Milestone Health Services Halton can provide custom health care services to compliment your existing OHIP coverage in Ontario.  Given that our services are not covered by OHIP, we are sensitive to the financial circumstances of many seniors in our community.

We advocate for seniors through CARP. This organization helps seniors voice their concerns about financial security and freedom from ageism. We have a kiosk at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and can be found in select local pharmacies to help you understand how we can serve you, and take every opportunity to attend community living shows so we can meet our neighbours.

Housing for seniors

We’ve recognized a growing trend in seniors being unable to afford housing in Ontario, especially if they have special needs or limited income. We’ve designed our services so they follow you, whether you live in your own home, or have an alternative living arrangement.

The recent census shows that Canada population is ageing at a rate that presents challenges for our government in terms of planning for senior health care programs. Housing costs in larger cities force people with modest incomes to seek housing in smaller towns, but the vacancy rate for rental units in those towns is low.

We understand that having to make adjustments can be difficult for many of us, but it’s important to focus on how to make the changes work for you. If you’re a senior who doesn’t own their home or cannot afford to live alone, there are options!

  • Move in with a relative or child
  • Get a roommate to help share expenses
  • Sell your home and rent an apartment
  • Apply to join the Home Share program in your area
  • Rent out part of your home to help cover living expenses
  • Apply for assistance through your municipality (click here for information on Halton services)

What is Home Share?

The Toronto Star recently published an article about senior housing that we hope you’ll enjoy as well. It talks about how a program called Home Share brings together seniors who can’t afford to live on their own, and it’s right here in Halton too!

Halton Housing Help will assess each application based on your needs and will match you up with an appropriate housemate. Learn more here.
