Even during a pandemic we can’t help but think of the upcoming holiday season. In fact, some folks are putting more emphasis on engaging in the holiday spirit now more than ever before – in part to try and bring some joy to what has otherwise been a bleak year. It’s understandable. If, on top of Covid concerns, you or a loved one have also faced a health challenge this year, chances are you’re really looking to the holiday season to provide some levity in your life! Milestone Health would like to remind you however, that the holidays are no time for a holiday – from your healthcare routines and schedule that is!

Milestone Health is dedicated to providing professional, kind and continuous care throughout the year and in particular, during the upcoming holiday season. It’s important that you do not take a break from the routines you’ve previously established, as they are an important part of your overall health care and/or recovery plan. No one is suggesting you can’t have a treat or two (after all, it IS the holidays and chocolate is almost always ok) but treating yourself well also means maintaining your regular routines. These are crucial to ensuring your continued good health throughout 2021 and beyond! Here are a few tips for maintaining personal care throughout the holidays:

  • Plan now for care later.

Make a plan for yourself or with your family for any major celebrations or opportunities to get together whether in person or in zoom. Then make a plan for your regular personal care needs that takes into account those celebratory occasions.

  • Order any products you might need ahead of time.

This is a busy time of year for shipping products. Don’t wait until you are nearing the end of your regular supply of health care products you rely on. Like Santa, make a list and check it twice, then place your order for enough to last over the entire holiday season. This applies to all of your prescription needs as well.

  • Book your service providers.

You might need to be a bit flexible with the time of day during the holiday season but not with the actual days of service you typically rely on. Regular care providers (like Milestone Health) need to plan for the holidays too in order to ensure they are staffed accordingly to meet all of your care and support needs. Remember, we’ve sat down with you once already to discuss all of your medical and/or personal health care needs – now let’s make sure you continue to receive excellent care throughout the holiday season!

  • Ask About Alternatives.

Be prepared that you may experience a few changes due to the holidays. If you think you might be sent a different health care provider or that the dates and times of your service may change, be sure to discuss that early in December (now) so that you’re prepared. If you are making arrangements for a loved one, be sure they understand the “stranger” at the door is not a stranger but someone you’ve arranged to provide alternative care in the absence of your regular provider. Remember, professional caregivers (like those at Milestone) are licensed, carry identification, and are insured and bonded. If you see an unfamiliar face at the door ask for the I.D. or call your service provider for clarity.

  • Unexpected Emergencies.

Let’s face it, emergencies still happen but if you have a plan in place, including how to handle an emergency – you’ll be better prepared to handle the unexpected.

The holidays are a time for enjoyment, to take a break from regular routines and to enjoy time with friends and family. Certainly, this year will look a little different and how we spend time with loved ones will be a part of what makes this year unique. What shouldn’t be unique is how you receive the regular care you have come to rely on for yourself or a family member. The holidays are no time to take a holiday from your care routine. Plan ahead so you can make the most of this holiday season – pandemic or no pandemic!
